Temporary Changes due to Covid-19

In order to allow all participants to continue with their Award even in times of social distancing and potentially closed schools, the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation, in collaboration with all countries, has issued temporary adjustments to the programme specifications.

If you have any questions about possible activities in the Service, Talent, Fitness or Expedition parts of the programme, you are also always welcome to write to us directly! Please also check DofE UK’s website for inspiration (see link below).

The past year has shown that a participation in the Award, through supporting self-directed development outside the classroom, can help young people to move forward and feel less isolated, especially in challenging times like these.

For example, students at Schule am Schillerpark in Berlin worked colloboratively on a recipe book during the first lockdown. Each student cooked a dinner for their family once a week for three months to relieve their parents. This was photographed and described, and in the end a group recipe book was created. As a service, the same students cooked hot meals for people in need and distributed them in public places.

Here you can find a padlet that the school at Schillerpark used to collect ideas for activities during the first lockdown.
