As an association, we are committed to respecting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and to contributing to its realisation wherever possible. We want to help ensure that all participants know their rights.
We encourage our Award Operators and Award Leaders to refer participants to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child when defining and designing activities in the areas of service, skills and fitness and, if interested, to motivate them to engage with Convention issues and promote awareness of them in and outside the school environment.
Possible activities could be, for example, a campaign to raise awareness of children’s rights in school (service), painting and printing postcards on individual children’s rights (skills) with subsequent sale, or organising a fundraising run to promote children’s rights (service).
The fundamental principles are laid down in the following articles:
- Art. 2: Non-discrimination
- Art. 3: Priority of the best interests of the child
- Art. 6: Life and the best possible development
- Art. 12: Participation in all decisions affecting them
Below you will find links to websites that offer material on the topic of children’s rights that can be used by participants (e.g. for the implementation of a campaign) or by extracurricular activity leaders.
