Ruby

Hi, my name is Ruby. I am 15 years old, and I’m currently a student at the International School on the Rhine in Neuss. I completed the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award in May 2025, and I’mexcited to now serve as a Youth Ambassador for the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

In my free time, I play the violin, and I also play in a Youth Orchestra here in Düsseldorf! Besides that, I enjoy listening to music, creative writing, and debating in Model United Nations and as part of a debate club. I also love traveling and learning new languages to discover different cultures around the world.

I want to involve myself as a Youth Ambassador because I want to make a positive impact in the world, even if it’s just a small one. In a project that I’m currently working on with 2 of my classmates, our concept is based on the “butterfly effect” in which many of our small actions contribute to something bigger. That’s the mindset I want to have when approaching things such as being a Youth Ambassador for the Duke of Edinburgh.

Seyma

Everyone talks about equality, women’s rights, and freedom, but in everyday life it often remains just words. That’s exactly what I want to change. I am committed to ensuring that women can live self-determined lives, have equal opportunities, and are not restricted by their background or religion. As a Youth Ambassador, I don’t just want to talk –  I want to encourage people to rethink, to pay attention, and to take action themselves.

Sila

My name is Sila Sönmez, I am 17 years old and I currently attend the Hedwig-Dohm-Oberschule in Berlin.

In my free time, I enjoy baking, listening to music, and spending time with my friends. I also like going for walks, especially in new places I haven’t been to before, because I enjoy exploring my surroundings. I also like drawing and being creative whenever I have the opportunity.

At first, I am usually a bit quiet, but that changes quickly once I feel comfortable. My friends would describe me as helpful, creative, and open to new things.

At the moment, I am working on my Duke Award at Bronze level, where I take on new challenges, learn along the way, and gain lots of new experiences.

It is also my dream to see a lot of the world and to get to know and explore new places.

Teodor

Teodor is currently working towards his Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award and is curious about the world and the people in it. He’s especially interested in languages and cultures, and enjoys discovering how different communities think, communicate, and connect. Sport is a big part of his life –  he’s passionate about football, both watching and playing, and has also taken up kickboxing as part of his DofE journey.

He likes getting involved and contributing to school projects that have a positive impact, including through the Student Council. He joined the Duke programme because it’s important to him to stay active and make a difference for the people around him. He also believes that new experiences and perspectives help him grow. Through DofE, he wants to keep challenging himself, learn from others, and use what he learns to support and encourage people to step outside their comfort zones.

Yeesha

Hi, I’m Yeesha and I’m 16 years old. I completed the Bronze Award last year and will be working towards the Silver Award this year.

Currently I am a member of the student council Metropolitan School Frankfurt. I am particularly interested in basketball and crocheting, which were also the main two activities that helped me complete my Bronze Award.

In addition, I care about the SDGs 1 and 3 due to my interest in helping people who struggle with poverty and access to good health. Therefore, I would like to help raise awareness to these topics.

I appreciate how the award helped me connect my interest in crocheting with my desire to help others. Through the activity section, I was able to crochet many items for people in need of them.
